Wentworth Fly Away 17th & 18th November 2012
Hello To All Members,
Saturday morning dawned with a beautiful sunny blue sky, movement started around the airport as members and family prepared their aircraft for the Wentworth Fly away, good weather was predicted for the whole weekend so that took a lot of pressure off worrying whether we would get home or not.
We all made our own way to Wentworth via different locations, and at different time intervals, on arrival the Wentworth Aero Club had morning tea ready for us, by around 11.30 am most aircraft had arrived from Deniliquin, Ballarat, Tocumwal, Corowa and Goolwa, 54 people had gathered at the Wentworth Aero Club, we then mixed and mingled until BBQ lunch was served around 1 pm, one photo of Andrew G sitting having lunch with all his "wive's". BBQ lunch was delicious and went down very well. A big thanks to the Wentworth Aero Club and John Powell for their hospitality, aircraft that had to refuel did so while others were ferried to their accommadation by the courtesy bus. All were left to do our own thing until it was time to board the Houseboat at 6pm, some choose to rest others went for a walk around Wentworth, while some gathered at the local to quench their thirst.
Come 6.20 pm all had gathered together to board the Houseboat, greeted by the Skipper and crew as we boarded the vessel, we made our way to the bar for some more refreshments and to mix and mingle on the top deck with some spectacular views of the river, before sitting down to dinner, Dinner was served as we cruised the River, you don't get it much better than this. Entertainment was provided by the owner of the Houseboat and his wife, music that suited to our vintage. I must say they were very professional, some more wine mixed in with the music, time flew and before you knew it the time was 9.30 pm and the cruise was over. For some this was not the end of the evening, as a few proceeded to the Services Club for more entertainment.
Next morning breakfast was served out in the open at the Motel, breakfast being what we are accustomed to back in Deni. A monumental effort by the owners of the motel, who ferried us to and from the Airport on both days provided us with a huge breakfast, excellent motel rooms and couldn't do enough for us. After breakfast It was back to the Airport for the flight home, all arrived home safe and well, there was a little concern when JR had not arrived back in Deni by 3pm, to find out that he had a flat battery at Balranald and had to call for help from town to get him in the air again.
Many thanks to Bruce S and John Mac for their effort in putting this Flyaway together, these successful flyaways don't just happen a lot of time and effort goes into them, as we all know.
